WOW Week in Montana is Upon Us!

Well, the time is near for us to kickoff the WOW Week at Canyon Baptist Church in Hungry Horse, MT. The Mission Team arrives today, Saturday, June 20th. Our first Team meeting will be at the A&W Restaurant in Columbia Falls today at 1:30 PM... this has been a bit of a tradition. It is a great time for everyone to meet casually and then we will head on over to Canyon Baptist Church to start the decorating for WOW Week. Thank you to everyone who has supported the mission... Mission Goal

The population of the Flathead Valley area of northwestern Montana is expected to double over the next 20 years. The goal of the Metro Baptist Association in partnership with the Glacier Baptist Association is to strengthen existing churches and grow new churches to reach this growing population for Christ. This is a wonderful opportunity for you to involve your entire family in a mission experience. We will be invloved in leading a full day Vacation Bible School in the Flathead Valley region of Montana. Broadmoor has partnered with this area for the past several years.
Our goal for this mission trip:Outreach Evangelism: A Vacation Bible School(Broadmoor’s WOW Week), afternoon field trip and recreational activities with Canyon Baptist Church for the children and youth of Hungry Horse, MT

Hungry Horse, MT

The town of Hungry Horse was indeed named after two draft horses used for logging the area when they wandered off during the severe winter of 1900. The horses, Tex and Jerry, were found a month later, all scraggly and hungry but very much alive. As visitors today drive through Hungry Horse on their way to and from Glacier National Park, there are statuesque reminders of the hungry horses.
Today the town has a population of 900 and is a small community that is likely to be overlooked as visitors make their way onward to Glacier National Park, which lies just 10 miles to the east. The town is worth a stop, either for a traveler's rest break or a place to spend the night prior to a full day in the park. Worth checking out are the several roadside stands offering various concoctions made from native huckleberries. The best are the huckleberry milk shakes that leave you wanting more. A worthy side trip is a visit to the Hungry Horse Dam. The town's post office was established in 1948, when the federal government began planning to dam the South Fork of the Flathead River. The dam was completed in 1952.
